Why Route 66?
Route 66 was the first road to cross the
USA from east to west. Along the years, the road has met all kinds of
travellers: the very first owners of a car, humble people looking for a better
future, army trucks, etc.

Somehow, Route 66 has been a privileged
witness of the fast development of North America. However, one of the victims
of that development was the Route itself.
The new and more convenient highways took over many miles of the old
road and thus destroyed most of the spirit of the Route 66. Route 66 does not
exist as a complete road anymore, although there are still many miles of the
original road in use. They are used by the local people, most of the times.
Nowadays, most of the economy of the USA
is concentrated along a bunch of big names. Restaurants, hotels, supermarkets,
gas stations... a few big names (franchises or not) are present, all equal and
standard, all over the country. It gets really difficult to differentiate one
town from the next one. All over, we see the same business at the entrance and
exit of every town. Downtown, on the other hand, we only smell the spirit of
the old businesses, gone forever. Standardisation is the king everywhere.
Everywhere? No way!
Along Route 66, one can find some ma and
pa old businesses. They are somehow living witnesses of older days, days when
not all the towns were so equal. There is some kind of renaissance around Route
66 lately. Recently, Route 66 has celebrated its 75th birthday and thanks to
it, it has received more and more people interested in getting to know the
heartland of the USA. We went there in an attempt to spend our vacation in an
environment that hardly makes it to the Hollywood movies. We did the journey on
a Japanese motorcycle and we recommend it to anybody who enjoys travelling. If
your want to set out the trip from your computer, this is the right place for
you. Should you need further info before you get your kicks on route 66, do not
hesitate to get in touch with us.
Read, then, the story of our journey. Get on our motorcycle and enjoy Route
66 from your computer.
